On Vegetarianism in the Name of God’s Laws in the Universe.
I wasn’t always a vegetarian – unfortunately, I was ashamed of it for a long time when I wised up. But I was born in a Christian setting where everyone ate meat and eggs. Consequently, I also automatically succumbed to this habit under the influence of my family upbringing. I began to practice vegetarianism immediately on the Divine Warning in 1996, when I was brought to the Mahaprabhudip Ashram in Střílky, where my future Master Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda was staying at that time. I even caught a few fish as a kid under the influence of an otherwise amazing book on nature mysticism called The Book of Woodcraft and Indian Lore by Ernest Thompson Seton. Later, in deeper meditation, I sincerely regretted this act, so I do not even kill ticks now. I think this is how God warned me not to harm any living beings. I would like to recommend vegetarian diet to everyone, for example even to Christians, who unfortunately ignore this warning, even those who are clergymen, monks and priests. This warning of mine against violence to animals will be understood only by real spiritual Personalities. Therefore, Indian saints, yogis, swamis and sadhus do not eat meat at all. You simply have to possess this most humane Hindu nature to understand It. Even Leo Tolstoy warned that as long as people kill animals, there will be wars.
